M99 Google 4S+ Phone and GPhone F27 - Android Market Fix

Edit 03.20.2012: This procedure also works for the GPhone F27, it just needs some additional files.


Where to start?

O.k., let's start by downloading this package for the M99: CLICK
Download this package for the GPhone F27: CLICK



Unzip it.
Copy the m99market folder on the sd-card of your phone.

ROOTING: 

Turn on your phone, go to Settings - Applications - Development and check the USB-Debugging.



Start the Super One Click program on your pc.
Connect your phone to your pc. You phone NEEDS to be recognized as an "ADB-DEVICE" by your pc. 



Check your Windows device manager if it does. If it DOESN'T, you need to install the adb drives. You will need to point Windows to the

MT6573ADBdrivers

folder that is also included in the download package above.

Once your device is recognized as an ADB device, you are ready to click on "Root" in the Super One Click program. It should take a moment and hopefully your phone will be rooted then.



Market / Calendar / Contacts fix:

Basically what you want to do is this: CLICK

As you can see, this person also included the "root explorer" in his post, that is something you will need to have installed on your phone as well.

When your phone is rooted, when you have the M99market folder on your phone's sd card, when you have the Root Explorer installed on your phone, you are ready to follow these instructions:

  2. Thanks for the tips. I received my M99 Google 4s, but it had no data connection as well as the items you mention in the fix.I followed your online guide and every thing seemed OK and rooted the phone a couple of message boxes came up which I said yes to. However, I came unstuck at how to install the root explorer and I have not installed the other fixes. The phone no longer makes or accepts calls, also the MSD card is no longer recognized by my PC. I have copied all the 4 files to file to the micro sd card. I noted in your blog that it is important to have the root explorer installed prior to commencing the fix. In simple terms can you advise on how to install the root explorer onto the system apps- any assistance greatly appreciated?

  3. You don't have to install the root explorer into the system apps, simply put the root explorer (the *.apk) anywhere on your sd card, click on it from any file manager you might have on your phone (es file explorer, for exmaple) to install the root explorer.

    When you phone is rooted, use the root explorer for the procedure I show in my video.

    1. the fix worked great, had some issues with my network which have also been resolved. phone is everything I could have hoped for. I have one outstanding issue, and that is the keyboard. I looked at downloading/installing the Itap app, but their installation instructions point to options in the settings which are not available (or not visible. I don't suppose you have a fix for installing an alternative keyboard?

      You're blogs to date have been extremely useful.

      Sorry, I don't quite understand what the problem is? Are you having a problem installing this particular "itab" keyboard or can't you install any other keyboard at all? I just tested it, I installed the "go keyboard", you need to activate it and the first time you enter a text somewhere, tab and hold the text area for a second, select input method and choose your keyboard.

    3. Hi again ColonelZap!
      I wonder if its possible to mix with the firmware update file?
      To unzip the update file and put app: Market.apk(Vending.apk) inside: system/app/Vending.apk
      And then zip the ROM file again with same title as original?

      Does the package installer screws up inside this ROM when adding an Vending.apk inside and mess the update M99?

      Is it possible or will I mess the phone or ROM-file?

    4. I haven't tried that but that might actually work.

      I don't think it's much of a risk to try because if it doesn't work, you can always flash the original firmware back.

      No guarantee but I THINK it's pretty safe to try :-)

  5. Hi Guys,
    I have this phone- love it! I have done all these fixes and they work great-thank you ColonelZap.
    Once your phone is rooted, you can delete those standard Chinese apps too using root explorer - Be careful what you delete in the /system/app folder.
    My only issue now is GPS seems weak, takes time to lock on and jumps about by about 30meters which makes SatNav bad. Getting location from the phone network does not seem to work at all either. Does anyone else have this issue? or a fix would be really appreciated.

      I'm glad I could help with the market. I don't have this GPS problem at all, have you tried to "allow mock locations" in the settings - applications - development?

      Sometimes that helps.

    2. Hi, thanks for your reply CZ,
      I'm still having big trouble with getting the location from the network (GPS inaccuracy I can live with) Unfortunately mock location made no difference. When I am indoors I get no GPS signal at all, lots of apps won't work for me because it does not even get a rough position. Could you please do me a favor and share the following files. (I can provide FTP?) /system/app/networklocation.apk /system/etc/permissions/com.google.android.maps.xml
      /system/framework/com.google.android.maps.jar
      /system/framework/com.android.location.provider.jar
      /system/framework/com.android.location.provider.odex
      I would really appreciate that.

  6. Hi....

    I have tried rooting M99 mobile with help of Super click provided in the link.
    It comes still Rooting Device --- step 6 and removes mobile connection with the PC. later when i try to fix android market it sayz that the mobile is not rooted...

  7. Hi guys I just received my m99 yesterday from fastcard. I have a problem, the m99 boots up but cannot slide the unlock arrow. I talk to Gary from fastcard make me reboot the phone a couple of time but not luck, then he is telling me he going to get the rom from manufactory on monday,but reading on your blogs seems like there is no rom for our phone.
    what can I do?

  8. Its a nice phone, but every time i try to Root my Phone,

    it dont respond by the SuperOneClick on my PC.

    It tells me that the daemon has startet and then it crashes.

  9. Hello to all.

    i can not connect the M99 to the computer.. i tried with usb debuging. tried in some computer.. and nothing.. M99 starts to charge the battery but nothing else happens.. i tried to root it with universal android, z4root,gingerbreak. and nothing.. i can not root it with superclick because i can not connect to the PC..

    Any idea of how to solve this.. do not know what to do..

    1. I wish I knew? Is your phone recongnized correctly as an ADB-device? If not, I'm guessing you are having a driver problem. If somehow possible I'd try this procedure on a Vista or even XP Windows PC, they usually don't cause any problems. Good luck :-)

  11. I checked it as you discribed. It says driver is okay. I rooted twice. First time it works. I followd the next step and tried to install vending.apk. Installation works fine but market wasn`t show. Than I wipe an install MT63x, restore the data and root it again. Than it chrashes. Try to send you the report.

  14. Thanks Colonel Zap. Used your tutorial to root my M99 to perform the market fix. Only problem I encountered was that there was no apk file in the link to the root explorer zip file. Once I found the apk file it went smooth as glass !!! THANK YOU !!! Love my chIphone !!!!

To whom it may concern,does anyone know how can I get rid of that blue dialog box"double tap to unlock"everytime I get a call or I try to call after 1 or 2 minutes this message over the "dial up" or even after I start a conversation ? is extremely annoing and sometimes cut the communication.Thks to Colonel Zap for any advice..Al

  17. When you make or receive a call I suggest you always press the power button to lock the screen. The M99 Google phone has no proximity sensor and so it cannot sense it is pressed to your face on a call and unlocks very easily.

    Hope this helps, I got some loud noises down my ear because mine kept unlocking and going on speaker and drove me nuts cutting calls off too!

  18. Thanks for this - worked perfectly.

    The one thing that bugs me about the standard launcher on the M99 is sometimes the font color is black against a dark background, making it almost impossible to read (e.g. in Root Explorer after long-clicking a file). Is it possible to change the font color without replacing the whole launcher?

    1. Hi :-) I don't even think installing a different launcher will help, those colors are part of the firware, I have no idea how to change them.

  23. did all the above, super one click gets frozen after clicking "root". Killing adb server.
    starting adb server. > deamon not running
    deamon started successfully on port 5037..

    PROGRAM NOT RESPONDING.. what do I do here?
