Zopo ZP100 phone review

Dual sim / dual standby

Display 960x540 pixel resolution (QHD)

MTK6575 CPU @ 1GHz

4GB ROM, 512MB RAM

Notification LED (pretty cool, it blinks when you have a message waiting)

Totally UNLOCKED, quadband (GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900), 3G / UMTS

Wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, AGPS, G-Sensor, proximity sensor, light sensor, magnetic field sensor (for compass), dual cameras (5MP (8MP output) autofocus main camera, 2 LED flash lights and a VGA front camera).

I installed additional launchers like the Launcher Pro and SPB Shell 3D. The Android Market (Google Play Store) needed to be fixed on my phone. Merimobiles told me that they now send out the phones pre-rooted and with the market already fixed.

      I'm not sure how test a cold fix? Should I just wait a couple of days and then turn on the GPS?

    2. First of all I want to thank you for your fast response. I want to say that I'm not an expert user of android but I think you can test a cold start with this application.

      To clear the cached data you have to press the menu botton -> Manage A-GPS state -> Reset. Then if you want you can use the other application (GPS Test Plus).

      I will very gratefull if you can make a video and maybe compare it with another branded cellphone.

    7. I just tested it with the tool you suggested. Data off, A-GPS off, I resetted A-GPS Xtra Data. It took about 3 Minutes to have 4 fixes / 12 in view. The number of fixes went up as time went by. I'm guessing 4 Sats should be enough to navigate?

  3. I just got my zp100 phone yesterday. Couldn't get the google play to work either. And it is not pre-rooted either. How do I root this phone and get the google play to work. Any help will be great...thanks!!

    1. Hi :-) I don't know how I can easily explain that? what you need is this:

      Basically what you want to do is to flash a new pre-loader and bootimage on the phone.

      Once you have done that, the phone is rootet. After that, you need to copy the

      com.android.vending-3.5.16.apk

      into the system/app folder of your phone, give it the right permission and re-boot the phone.

      Forget the rooting part in that post, just look at the video to give you an idea how to copy the file, using the root explorer.

    4. Thanks colonel. Will give it a try. Also, do you know where I could download the driver for zp100? Because apparently zopo website doesn't allow countries outside of China to login and download the driver. Without it, my computer doesn't recognize the phone. It only recognizes it as USB drive.

    1. Yes, it is. I did that to be able to install the Play Store.

    1. Hi :-) I like the ZP100 or the IHTC One X 4G+ better than the A750. The 540x960 pixel resolution simply looks so much better than a 480x800 resolution.

    1. That's a tough call, those two phones are so much alike. The ZP100 has a notification LED and dedicated camera button that the One X doesn't have, the One X is slightly cheaper and it comes with a second battery. So, it's probably just a question of taste, the rest is identical.

  12. Hi, thanks for taking your time to post reviews and to answer questions. Do you know if the zp100 supports wireless-n? The latest specs coming out from some websites claim it now supports wireless-n. I thought it was only up to wireless-g.

      Zopo doesn't mention "n", so I doubt it's supported:

  14. Hello, I would like to know the IMEI first two digits for the Zopo. Is there one IMEI # per SIM ? I heared that chineses IMEI could give problems with dual SIM by some operators in Europe i.e. France. What's about in Germany ? Thanks

    1. Hi :-) It starts with 86 and the phone only shows one IMEI. So far nobody from Germany / Austria / Switzerland or wherever has complained about having problems in their counries, at least I have never heard of any problems.

  16. Hi Colonel. I've been trying to follow on your german forum about this phone through web translation. I ordered this phone and I am waiting for it to be shipped. I really wanted to know if you have tried any 720p mkv movies on this phone and how you think it performs. Another thing I would like to know is if you have tried a Gps program like IGO and how it works while you are actually driving. Thanks.

      I tested a 720p video but it wasn't a mkv file. The GPS seems to be a little weak but I tested it with Copilot and it navigated me home just fine.

      I just flashed an ICS FW on the phone, it was SOOOOOOO beta, you couldn't even make phone calls or send SMS ;-)

  19. Hi Colonel, I just got the zopo zp100 (I'm form Peru by the way) I ordered on internet i it took 15 days to arrive, the phone is great but I have just a couple of problems
    1.- I cannot upgrade the android 2.3.6 to 4
    2.- The google play store it freezes every time.
    any suggestions?

    2. Hi again, I just did the flashing part on the computer and it went ok, bu when I installed th ES FILE EXPLORER the scrren is diferent than the one i see on the web and I'm no able to Check "Up to Root", "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System". I have the superuser activated,
      I'm really sorry I'm kind of lost here, can you help me somehow

  21. Hello,

    I would like to ask users of zopo zp100 about the led lamp work after upgrade to ICS. In my case the led lamp gives very weak light (i check it by flashlight from google play and by taking pictures during the night). Do You have the same situation?

  22. Please note that I use stock ICS rom from zopo website (published 10 may 2012). In my opinion the led was so strong on android 2.3.6 that I couldn't look into it when it works. Now is really poor. Please advise.

    I guess this phone is only dual sim standby not dual sim active.
    Beside ZTE U960 and Samsung Galaxy Ace Duo, do you know other models that have dual sim active with android/3g.

    3. I doubt it! Unfortunately you can't believe what's printed on the batteries from China.

      Some user on Chinamobiles bought this battery for replacement:

    1. Hi :-) Actually the sound quality with GOOD(!!!) headphones, is one of the best I've ever heard :-)

      Of course you'll need your own headphones, the ones that come with the phone are sh*t ;-)
