Zopo ZP100 Running Android ICS 4.0.3 Beta

Just a little demonstration of the Zopo ZP100 Phone running a BETA Version of Android Ice Cream Sandwich ICS 4.0.3. Actually it wasn't that simple to get this running, because once you flash the ICS firmware, the phone's IMEI is gone :-(

You need to start out with a ROOTED Gingerbread version, backup the Zopo Mobile Tool, also make a backup of the Phone's IMEI using the Zopo Mobile Tool and copy both backups to the EXTERNAL sd card.

Next you flash the ICS firmware. CLICK

Then ROOT the phone again, using a script especially made for rooting the ICS firmware. CLICK
You phone must be ON, usb-debugging activated. Your phone NEEDS to be recognized as an ADB-DEVICE on your pc, or elese the rooting script won't work.

Install the Zopo Mobile Tool, copy your IMEI backup to the INTERNAL sd card, run the Zopo Mobile Tool and restore the IMEI from there.

That's it :-D

Please be careful, this can be very tricky, I had MAJOR problems rooting the phone with the script!!!

Edit: To fix the Playstore to be able to find more apps, check this out: CLICK

    1. That's the "funny" thing. When I had Gingerbread running, it only showed ONE IMEI.Now that I have ICS on it, all of the sudden TWO IMEIs are displayed :-)

I'm guessing it had two IMEIs all along but Gingerbread only let me see one.

    2. on its box also it has single imei printed.

I also saw the ZP100 with 2.3.x review:

    2.3.x seems a lot snappier.

Here, every action seems to have some delay...?

Maybe it is some kind of configuration...?

  5. I assume that once the official Zopo ICS comes out, it will work on the B79 too?

Also, can you confirm that when I buy this one: http://www.lovebargaining.com/1ghz-b79-40-inch-capacitive-screen-mtk6575-wcdma-3g-android-236-os-wifi-gps-smart-cell-phone-p-2365.html

that I will get the "real" B79 with 4.3" screen? I think they screwed up the title themselves, no?

    1. Hi,

I had the same problem, after update to ICS.
Try to enter zopo mobile tool, and switch on "power GPS search". It generates the missing "gps.conf" file is the system settings.
After this the phone lock GPS signal.

I don't know anything about the location problem, SORRY :-(

About the proximity sensor on Gingerbread:

After rooting, flash the latest Zopo Firmware again but ONLY(!!!!!!) the bootimage. Uncheck everything else, just flash the bootimage from that firmware. This might solve the problem.

At the very bottom of the site they have a 255MB download that includes the firmware, some Chinese intructions, a flash tool and some sort of IMEI tool, to restore the IMEIs after flashing their ICS version.

Yes, i've tried and it works in my B79 with the ICS firmware in your first post. But its only a beta version, so if you guys out there with B79 want to have a taste of ICS, go ahead, but using a beta ICS, not suggested.

  19. Hello Colonel,

It would be great of you could tell us the procedure for the official ICS firmware upgrade since, as you say, it´s in chineese.
I personally wonder whether it´s better to stay with 2.3.6 or if 4.0.3 is stable enough and if the procedure is the same as you comment at the beginning of this post (b79 beta)or if the official one is any different.
I read some issues regarding the b79 beta, do you know if they are still present in the official release?

  20. Ok I think I'm ready to do the upgrade but the instruction and everything is in Chinese (Big Surprise there) I tried to use google translator but it isn't a big help honestly , plus it looks quite complicated, I also read that ICS has more disadvantages, is it true?,
The followign was posted about ICS:

"My opinion is the ICS brought more disadvantages than advantages for a common user.
    - Complicated upgrade (IMEI restore, CWM Recovery incompatibility, etc)
    - Faster battery drain
    - No USB mass storage mode
    - Play Store incompatibility with lot of apps"

Is it true?, any advice or opinion will be appreciate.

    Your blog is very helpful.

I am from UK and seen some of this phone in ebay. Can I know which is worth money? Zopo Zp100 / Zp200, Star B79, Lenovo A750 or IHTC One S? I know you already mentioned the difference in your blog, please suggest a best phone. I need atleast 2 days battery life, good performance, notification led and better camera. How about the camera for Zopo? some forum mentioned the camera by sony and diplay by sharp.

And also do you recommend ICS over gingerbeard?

    Thanks.

    1. hi :-)

If you really want a notification LED then it narrows it down to the Zopo phones. I never had the ZP200 but I GUESS it's slightly better than the ZP100, question is, if it's worth the extra money? I'm more than happy with the ZP100.

I can't really recommend ICS over Gingerbread right now, on ICS the Play Store is missing quite a few apps, I like the Gingerbread version better.

  40. Hi Colonel...hope you`re still reading this old thread. I got my ZP100 and was disappointed to see that ICS was already on it. I ordered it with GB but they thought they were doing me a favor. Phone is snappy, in general i am happy. But the call quality is poor and the battery barely last a day. I ordered the PolarCell hoping that ICS Beta would be fine-tuned and a release would quickly be announced. Then today I tried to navigate...but noticed Maps was not there. I went to playstore and tried to download it but got a message that my device was not compatible with Maps! WTF? So, while ordering it I added Root and a cover for it. What are my prospects for a happy future???

    3. Hi Rodny :-)

I eddited my original post today, looks like somebody was able to figure out the problem with the Play Store on ICS but I haven't tried it, yet.

If you decide to upgade to ICS, PLEASE make sure to follow my instructions and backup your IMEIs in a very save place, or else it's going to be "complicated" to fix it again.

    4. Thanks a lot Colonel, I'll do as you say If i tried to do it.
By the way I am getting a Onda Vi30 Elite Edition and it uses Android 4.0, Am I suppose to expect the same issues like with the zopo zp100?

    6. Hi Colonel: I've just got the Vi30 yesterday, and of course it came with the ICS, and it's true it doesn't have as many apps as 2.36 not even angry bird my son's favorite, and the reason I bought the tablet was because of my son so he can play with it, Does anyone knows how to downgraded to 2.36, or is it possible at all?
by the way the tablet looks ok and the battery was ok, I haven't tested the wifi yet (talking about the distance). it has HDMI which is good, the camera is not good but it isn't the worst I've seen.
anyway any advice would be greatly appreciated

      Best regards
      Rodny

  47. Hi
Bought a Zopo ZP100 after seeing your review. Great phone. Running Android 4. Many apps on the Playstore say they're incompatible with this device, such as NavFree, AVG etc. Any ideas why this should be the case and how I can fix it?
    Thanks
    Paul

Sorry this is all in German but maybe google translate can help. You are looking for the

"Market-Fix für Android 4.0.x (wenn manche Apps, zB. Google Maps, nicht gefunden werden"

      in that post.

    2. Thanks for that. I'll give it a go tomorrow.
