Edit: Before you try this, please try this instead: CLICK

We are talking about this phone: CLICK

Currently running this firmware:

Download this: CLICK

Follow these instructions: CLICK

It's the EXACT same procedure, just a different bootimage is flashed.

YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOU OWN RISK!!!!

And PLEASE don't try this with ANY other phone or model, this will ONLY work with the phone I have linked above!

Credit for rooting the bootimage goes to:

Thank you so much for that!!! :-)

  2. Next step for me is figuring out how to set up "tablet mode" on this. The screen is so huge, I am able to change DPI, but now it needs 2 pane Gmail for instance, tablet mode apps.

    1. other thing, i cannot replace installed application from internal sd to my sdcard. Phone allows only changing between phone memory and internal memory and cannot choose external sd

      Delete
    2. i already swap my sdcard with my internal sd card. all i do was editing build.prop. But its kinda risky. But i done it.

normal build prop will be like this:

      example:
      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host

      dev_mount sdcard2 /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host

      to:

      dev_mount sdcard2 /mnt/sdcard/ext_sd emmc /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.1/mmc_host

      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/msm_sdcc.3/mmc_host

      our dapeng is like this:

      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/ sdcard emmc@fat /devices /platform/goldfish_mmc.0/devices/mtk-sd.0/mmc_host/mmc0
      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/ sdcard2 auto /devices /platform/goldfish_mmc.1/devices/mtk-sd.1/mmc_host/mmc1

      edited to:

      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/ sdcard2 emmc@fat /devices /platform/goldfish_mmc.0/devices/mtk-sd.0/mmc_host/mmc0
      dev_mount sdcard /mnt/ sdcard auto /devices /platform/goldfish_mmc.1/devices/mtk-sd.1/mmc_host/mmc1

    3. if anyone want to try it be sure u know what u r doing.

i recommend edit it directly using root explorer (NOT copy-paste-edit in computer) as it will not change the file permission.

if u copy-paste-edit in computer, MAKE sure u change the file permisson. If not, ur phone probably will go to bootloop.

      thanks ;-)

  12. Hi Colonol Zap, excellent blog and really helpful as there is dearth of English blogs on Chinese phones. I wanted to know if you have tried the CarPad Note5 F6 phone? I think It's the original 6" phone of which this Dapeng i9877 and the HDC Galaxy Tad P1000+ are copy of. Will this root work on the CarPad phone? I'm intending to buy the CarPad phone from fastcardtech, but lack of rooting tutorial is stopping me from doing so. There is a dedicated Chinese language forum for the CarPad but google translate does a really horrible job. Also, could you tell me out of these 6" phones, if you grade them, which one do you think is the best in your opinion? Thanks in advance

    1. Hi and thank you :-) I wouldn't try this on any other phone! The orginal bootimage from this phones was modified, chances are that the bootimages are not the same, so it could brick any other phone.

This is the only 6" phone I has so far, so I really can't compare it to other models, no idea if other models might be better or worse.

      Delete
    2. Thanks for your reply :-) ok so how would you grade this phone on a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being the best out of all the phones that you have reviewed so far? And by the way, let me suggest to add a 5 stars or 10 stars grading system of sorts to your reviews like build quality, over all size and form factor to name a few.. Well you can be the judge as to what to include in this grading table which you can place at the end of the review. I think it would be most helpful for at-a-glance kind of thing when comparing phones. Thanks again and keep it up :-)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi there, I can't seem to install the firmware manually. Even though you have included them. How can I do this? My apologies for being a noob. This is my first china phone. haha I can get up to the part where you start to install the drivers, but then it fails. I'm assuming that the phone has to be turned off for this part to happen yes? Not on?

  18. Dapeng i9877, procedure done regularly with green circle at the end, but when you start you only see the Android logo that comes and goes.
With the appropriate buttons to be in recovery mode you restore anything BUT ..... :-( (((where to find other image?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have the same problem as Gianni Menzione. I have the same phone spec's as in the picture. I then do the steps and all works out good. I get the green all done at the very end. I then restart the phone and the Android logo appears and then disappears. The phone doesn't boot up. Any chance of a finding the normal image anywhere ?

  24. Hi Colonel Zap,
I was trying to use your tool on my phone (it is the dapeng i9877), and something has gone wrong. While using the tool I got the green circle saying that rooting the device had worked but when I turned on the phone I am stuck in the android system recovery <3e>. I tried to do a factory reset and reboot the device but nothing happens. If you have any insight as to how to fix my phone it would be greatly appreciated.
