HDC Galaxy i9300 SIII PLUS - MT6577 Rooting Tutorial

Edit: Before you try this, please try this instead: CLICK

Just to make SURE, I am talking about this Phone: CLICK

currentlty with this firware version:

Download this: CLICK

UNTESTED but for WIN7 Users these drivers could be needed???: CLICK

Unpack it.
Start the flashing tool.
Click on "Scatter-loading" to load the MT6577_Android_scatter_emmc.txt file, the flashing tool should looks exactly like this:

Click on "Download", you'll get a warning message:

Continue anyway.
Your phone is OFF.
Remove the battery.
Insert the battery.
Connect the phone via USB-datacable to your pc.
It SHOULD trigger the flashing process. If this is the first time you are doing it, you should be asked to install a driver. The missing driver is located in the
SP_Flash_Tool_v3.1222.00 / new usb driver folder. After the driver is installed, you may have to start the flashing process again.

----------------------------------------
Edit: For Windows 7 users:

Start c/windows/system32/hddwiz.exe (as admin)

Click next

Manually select hardware

List all devices

Select the driver (for example usb2ser_Win764.inf)

from the List select "MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM Port"

(I don't have Win 7 running, so I can't verify this)
----------------------------------------

Flashing the bootimage should only take a few of seconds, on success the flash tool looks like this:

Your phone should now be rooted, if you find a "Superuser" App on your phone, everything went well.
Good luck and remember,
YOU ARE DOING THIS AT YOU OWN RISK!!!!
And PLEASE don't try this with ANY other phone or model, this will ONLY work with the phone I have linked above!

Credit for rooting the bootimage goes to:

Thank you so much for that!!! :-)

    1. Hi :-) Probably not, I wouldn't risk it! I took the bootimage from THIS phone, it was modified and then flashed back on the phone.

If you take THIS modified bootimage and flash it on a DIFFERENT phone, chances are very high that you will brick the phone.

Those firmares / bootimages are specially designed for the phone and its hardware, so if the other phone has only ONE different hardware component that requires different drivers (for example), the bootimages / firmwares will NOT be compatible.

  6. Hi ColonelZap,

I want to purchase a 5 or more inch Android phone with dual core processor, MT6577 for example, but I need to root it. I've seen few of them in Fascardtech, such as HDC Galaxy Note 2 5.4" QHD Screen MTK6577, but I asked them to root the phone and they say they can't root it. I'm a bit confused between some models and I'm not sure which is better. Please give me some advice of which of them to get.

  16. Hi Colonelzap !

Thanks for your great job ! I think that you help many users of this phone...!

I tried this way to root mine. It didn't work but i think it wasn't the same one. So I returned it to the seller.
I will definitely buy the Fastcardtech one but I'm afraid of not being able to install the original Play Store...
How did you do it ?
Did you root it to do it ?
I had a drivers problem when I tried to root mine...do you think this problem could be fix with the Fastcardtech model ?

Thanks a lot for your answer.
I watched all of your HDC S3 videos and I would be very happy to have the same phone which running as well in my hands ;)

    1. Hi and thank you :-)

The PLUS version came with the play store "out of the box", I didn't have to fix anything.

Your driver problem will probably remain, it really hasn't anythig to do with the phone, it's a pc / windows problem.

  17. Thanks for your fast answer ;)

But what do you mean by: "The PLUS version came with the play store "out of the box" "?
Fastcardtech said that it come only with the chineese version.
I asked them to install the original version before sending but they can't because the don't have the ROM to do it...

Do you mean that you could put the Play Store without rooting the phone ? If it's right, It could be great !
In fact I'm afraid to buy this phone again without being able to root it and not have the original Play Store !

    Thanks again ;)

    1. Hi :-) I know this is a MAJOR problem :-( Every store gives those phones their own names, you can never know which one is the "correct" one, this happens with almost every phone I get.

When I take out the battery it reads:

      Model: 9300
      Touch Diamond2 9300

      No HDC or Bluebo!

Those are generec phones, a factory produces them and then they are labled with a BUNCH of different names :-(

Next problem: Even if you are sure that you have the phone I am writing about, you still can't be sure that it has the EXACT same hardware components. It's not unusual that a factory changes the components in later production batches, and therefore the "new" phone won't be compatible with the "old" phone anymore.

All those things we simply don't know, it's a risk to flash a rom or whatever :-(

      Delete
  19. Touch Diamond2 9300 is bluebo l100-fw !!!
this screenshot is ardware of bluebo l100-fw

Two questions, i'm looking to buy one of this fron fastcardtech, do you believe there will be a way to flash 4.1.1 jelly bean in the future?? im new to chinese android phones and don't know if they're usually updated, or if there's enough of a modding scene so someone would make a port...
If not, i may get the hdc galaxy note 2 from that site that has 4.1.1, but i prefer the smaller screen and rootability of this s3 model...

Would greatly appeciate your input.. thanks in advance....

I wouldn't count on a Jelly Bean update, it's very unlikely.

As a matter of fact, right now I don't know any Chinese phones that run on Jelly Bean, those system infos are usually faked, there is no Android 4.1.1 on those phones.

    2. Hi :-) First of all, check if the IMEIs are there by dialing

      *#06#

Then, you'll have to root the phone like I explained in this tutorial. Once you have root access, google for

      mtk droid root & tools

With that tool you should be able to write new IMEIs.

With the boot.img from here my touchscreen was not responding to the right agency.
The original boat is now only for the phone with the data:

Android 4.1 (not as usual here, the 4.0)

yes i see the begin adress of the parts but i dont know the lenght i have to readback.

    6. There are no stupid questions :-) You don't need to make a bootimage, somebody uploaded the original bootimage for you already at zippyshare, see a few posts above :-)

    7. The length needs to be calculated with a hex calculator. You take the FOLLOWING start address and substact the start address of the part you want to readback. This is how it's done:

    10. Hi ColonelZap,
i can not do unfortunately. I get no connection with the ADB to the phone. I have read the instructions and tried - but with Windows 7 does not seem to be so simple.
I had foolishly flashed the Recovery.img from your folder. me it would be enough if I start address and length would know. I can flash the phone from my other back. That the recovery is working again, because it's dead now.
      Thank you.

So all my apps can use the big sd card :-)
      Thank you very much.
Te only one i did not get is the recovery.img. I have read it from the 2. phone and flashed to my phone. but it does not start in recovery mode. This is not really bad. now i can use the phone i want :-)

  47. Hi ColonelZap,

...it is a little bit strange...I have the SU app but no real root after doing your flash root. One root checker says yes, the other no.
ES file Explorer says no root as well.

I did the xda root after it but but it could not copy(or replace) SU app so I stopped it.
Now all root checker say yes, root, as well as ES file explorer...but I can't mount the system and delete anything.
    Obviously busybox is missing.

What can or must I do?!

    Thx in advance.

    1. IMIE Numbers are valid.
    2. 2 SIM Slots 1 is Microsim , second normal
the Microsim I tested it works but cannot accept 3G Singal. the SIM is detected and voice worked/ limited edge connectivity also worked but no 3G
    3. I tried the second normal SIM slot , the SIM of some other network provider got detected. however I have Vodafone SIM and it does not work in normal SIM slot it detects that as 3G capable SIM because the small square shows 3G text on that (not the network symbol). I tried 2 normal Vodafone SIMs in this normal SIM slot none worked.
    4. tried advanced setting too using the 3646633 code :) there in "Band" it shows all GSM types but none UMTS. forget UMTS I am not getting any normal voice range too using these Vodafone SIMS. I tried the Vodafone support all crap.

    3. Hi Thurman,

ClockworkMod – also known as Clockwork and CWM – is a custom recovery
for Android phones and tablets that allows you to perform several
advanced recovery, restoration, installation and maintenance operations
on your Android device that aren’t possible with the stock recovery.

      read more here:
      http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-clockworkmod-recovery-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/

IF you want the CWM on your phone, just download the
package from this link - http://d-h.st/QPk
Beware it's only for the HDC Galaxy i9300 SIII PLUS - MT6577 phone

Everything is explained in the download.
